🌴 Key West • Super Bowl Weekend

Shawnee's 50th

A birthday weekend worth flying south for.

Sunshine, bikes, boats, live music, cocktails, the Super Bowl, and about 30 of our favorite people. This is the game plan — loose enough to be fun, organized enough that nobody misses the good stuff.

🎂 Birthday Weekend 🏈 Super Bowl Sunday ⛵ Sunset Cruise 🎸 Live Music 🍹 Key West Nights

One anchor event a day. The rest is Key West.

The goal is not to over-schedule everyone. Each day has one main thing we’d love the group to do together, with plenty of room for pool time, bars, food, shopping, wandering Duval, or doing absolutely nothing.

Why Key West

This Is the Backdrop

Turquoise water by day, ridiculous sunsets, and Duval Street after dark. Exactly the kind of place a 50th birthday should happen.

Sunset is an event here. Saturday’s cruise is built around the part of Key West nobody should miss.

Eaton Bikes

A longtime Key West favorite with cruisers, geared bikes, hybrids and trikes. A solid choice for Friday’s ride.

We Cycle

Highly rated and convenient, with cruisers, e-bikes and trikes plus free delivery/pickup in the Key West area.

Prefer a golf cart?

No problem. Key West has plenty of street-legal golf-cart rental options. Rent one and meet the group at the planned stops.

Golf-cart crew: use your phone for directions and make your own route between stops. Rental companies may have different driving-area restrictions, so confirm where your cart is allowed before heading out.

Shawnee celebrating her 50th birthday
🎂 The reason we’re all here

Look who’s 50!

Saturday is Shawnee’s night — sunset on the water, birthday dinner at Conch Republic, then Duval Street until we decide we’ve had enough. Or somebody makes us go home.

  • Relax during the day and save some energy for the evening.
  • Sunset Sip & Sail aboard the Sandie Cat — our current front-runner, with live music, appetizers and an unlimited open well bar. Group/private-charter details are being finalized.
  • Dinner around the Historic Seaport/Bight afterward.
  • Conch Republic Seafood Company — Brick Courtyard is the current dinner front-runner.
  • Then it’s Duval Street and Key West nightlife for Shawnee’s birthday celebration.

🎸 After Dinner: Duval Street

Dinner ends. The plan ends. Duval begins.
🎉
Sloppy Joe’s

The big-group party choice — live music, dancing and classic Key West energy right on Duval.

Irish Kevin’s

The high-energy sing-along choice — live entertainment, crowd participation and plenty of noise.

🎸
Green Parrot

The music-first choice — a legendary, no-frills Key West bar just off Duval with a serious live-music reputation.

Live music update: We’ll add the actual bands and set times as the February schedules are released — especially if Screaming Broccoli is playing.

✈️ Getting to Key West

There are a few ways to get here. Pick whatever works best for your schedule and budget — once you’re in Old Town, getting around is easy.

✈️

Fly into Key West (EYW)

The easiest option. You land right on the island, then grab a taxi or rideshare to your hotel. If you’re staying in Old Town, there’s usually no reason to rent a car.

🚗

Miami / Fort Lauderdale + Drive

Often more flight choices and sometimes better fares. The Overseas Highway drive through the Keys is part of the experience. Allow roughly 3½–4+ hours from Miami and longer from Fort Lauderdale, depending on traffic.

⛴️

Key West Express

Coming through southwest Florida? The high-speed ferry from the Fort Myers area is another fun option. Check the current schedule and fares directly with Key West Express when you’re ready to book.

🚗 Do I need a rental car? Probably not.

If you fly directly into Key West and stay in Old Town, we’d skip it. Parking can be a hassle, and most of our weekend will be walking, biking or taking short taxi/rideshare trips.

Make Old Town your home base

🏡 Where to Stay

We haven’t picked our hotel yet — and you don’t need to wait for us. Our recommendation is simple: find a place you like in Old Town and book it.

Stay in Old Town. You’ll be glad you did.

Most Old Town properties are small, so our group will probably be scattered around — that’s completely fine. Staying in the Historic District keeps you close to Duval Street, the Seaport, restaurants, bars and most of the weekend. Key West has tons of independent inns, guesthouses and cottages with real character. If you’re comfortable trying something different, explore them! If you prefer a familiar hotel brand, that works too — just pay attention to location.

🌴 Key West Character

Independent inns, guesthouses and cottages are a big part of the Old Town experience. These are just a few places to get you started — there are lots more worth exploring.

Island City House

Historic • Suites • Family friendly

Three historic buildings, tropical gardens, a pool and studio through two-bedroom suites. A great example of the independent Key West experience.

Heron House

Boutique • Near Duval • 21+

A small tropical inn just a block from Duval Street. Great location and plenty of Key West character. It’s 21+, so it won’t work for everyone in our group.

Simonton Court

Historic • Cottages • Adults only

Historic buildings and cottages tucked into lush tropical gardens in the heart of Old Town. Another great example of why it’s worth exploring the independent properties.

🏨 Prefer a Familiar Hotel?

No problem. If you’re more comfortable with a familiar brand or a larger full-service property, these options keep you in or close to Old Town.

Hyatt Centric Key West

Hyatt • Waterfront • Great location

Right in Old Town near the marina, Duval Street and Mallory Square. A strong choice if you want a recognizable brand, resort amenities and the ability to walk almost everywhere.

La Concha Key West

Marriott Autograph • On Duval

A historic hotel right on Duval Street and part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection. Hard to beat if being in the middle of the action is the priority.

Casa Marina Key West

Hilton Curio • Resort • Beach

A larger historic resort on the Atlantic side with a private beach and two oceanfront pools. More resort-style and a little farther from the Seaport action.

Best Western Hibiscus

Best Western • Old Town • Simple

A familiar, straightforward option on Simonton Street near Duval and the Southernmost Point. Pool, free breakfast and free parking without the full-resort setup.

Want more chain options? You’ll find additional Hilton, Marriott and other familiar brands farther from Old Town, sometimes at lower rates. Just remember that staying farther east usually means more taxis, rideshares or shuttle trips instead of walking.
Book early. February is prime Key West season and this is Super Bowl weekend. You do not need to wait for Eric & Shawnee to choose their hotel — pick the style that makes you comfortable and grab a place you like in or near Old Town.
Before you go

🌴 Good to Know

A few practical things that will make the weekend easier. Don’t overthink it — this is Key West.

🚶

Getting Around

Key West is compact and very walkable. Bikes are great, golf carts are an option, and taxis/rideshare work well when you don’t feel like walking. For most of this weekend, you probably won’t need a car.

👕

What to Pack

Shorts, T-shirts, swimsuit, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfortable shoes or flip-flops. Bring a light layer for breezy evenings and time on the water. Nothing we’re planning requires getting dressed up.

🌤️

February Weather

Expect warm days, comfortable evenings and plenty of sun, but Key West can get breezy or surprisingly cool after sunset — especially on a boat. We’ll update the site with the real forecast closer to the trip.

📱

Stay Connected

This website is the master itinerary. Final times, reservations, live-music schedules and changes will be updated here. We’ll also add the group text/chat details before the trip.

🥶

Polar Plunge People

If you’re joining the Higgs Beach plunge, pack something you can get wet in plus a towel and dry clothes. The 2027 event time is still TBD, so watch the Sunday section for the final details.

🍹 Unofficial Key West Rules

Don’t over-schedule yourself Hydrate occasionally 😂 Wear sunscreen Comfortable shoes win If you get separated, meet us at the next stop Have fun — that’s the assignment

📍 Plans will change. This page is home base.

Check back for final times, reservations, live music schedules, weather and last-minute updates. If something changes during the weekend, this is where we’ll put it.

Got a few hours?

🌴 Explore Key West

Nothing here is scheduled. These are just good ways to spend some free time when you’re doing your own thing.

🐈

Hemingway Home

About 1–1½ hours

Classic Key West history, Hemingway’s home and writing studio, tropical gardens and the famous six-toed cats.

🦋

Butterfly Conservatory

About 45–60 min

A surprisingly cool walk through a tropical habitat filled with free-flying butterflies, colorful birds and flamingos.

🏖️

Fort Zachary Taylor

2–3 hours

One of the best two-for-one stops: explore the historic fort, then swim, snorkel or relax at the beach.

📍

Southernmost Point

15–30 min

Touristy? Absolutely. But if it’s your first trip to Key West, you pretty much have to get the picture.

🌅

Mallory Square

1–2 hours at sunset

Key West’s nightly sunset ritual with street performers, vendors, people-watching and a waterfront sunset.

🇺🇸

Truman Little White House

About 1 hour

Florida’s presidential museum and Truman’s Key West retreat. A good pick for anyone who enjoys American history.

Historic Seaport

30 min–2 hours

Walk the Harborwalk, look at the boats, browse the shops, grab a drink or turn it into an easy waterfront lunch.

🪦

Key West Cemetery

30–60 min

Sounds strange, but it’s a fascinating Old Town walk with local history, above-ground graves and famously quirky epitaphs.

🐓 Only in Key West

Don’t overthink it. Some of the best sightseeing is just wandering around.

🐓 Chickens in the streets 🏠 Old Town architecture 🍹 Random bar stop 🛍️ Duval shops & galleries 📸 Southernmost photo 🌴 Get lost on a side street

🌊 Want to get on the water?

Key West has plenty of snorkeling, jet skis, parasailing, fishing, kayaking and boat trips. Pick what sounds fun and build your own adventure — no group schedule required.

When you’re on your own

🍳 Breakfast & Lunch Guide

Nothing here is scheduled — these are just some good Key West options when you’re hungry and doing your own thing.

☕ Breakfast & Brunch

From quick Cuban coffee to a full sit-down Key West morning.

Cuban Coffee Queen $ • QUICK Strong Cuban coffee, breakfast sandwiches and pressed Cuban bread. Great when you want to grab something and get moving.
Blue Heaven $$ • ICONIC The classic Key West breakfast experience — tropical courtyard, roosters, Benedicts and pancakes. Worth doing once; expect a wait at busy times.
Harpoon Harry’s $ • DINER Old-school, no-frills diner breakfast. Hearty plates, early opening and a good choice when you just want eggs, hash browns and coffee.
Pepe’s Cafe SHAWNEE’S FAVORITE Old-school Key West breakfast on Caroline Street. Shawnee’s order: chipped beef on toast — better known around here as “shit on a shingle.”
Moondog Cafe & Bakery $$ • BRUNCH Colorful Old Town café near the Hemingway Home with breakfast, bakery items, coffee and plenty of choices for mixed appetites.

🐟 Lunch & Quick Eats

Seafood shacks, Cuban food and easy places worth seeking out.

Eaton Street Seafood Market $$ • SEAFOOD Fresh seafood without the fuss — lobster rolls, fish sandwiches, shrimp, stone crab in season and shaded outdoor tables.
Garbo’s Grill @ Hank’s $$ • TACOS Food-truck favorite in a lively outdoor courtyard. Known for Korean BBQ, shrimp and fish tacos, burgers and the Mango Dog.
El Siboney $ • CUBAN A Key West Cuban institution away from the tourist strip. Go for roast pork, ropa vieja, picadillo, black beans and rice.
B.O.’s Fish Wagon $$ • KEY WEST Quirky old-school fish shack near the seaport. Fish sandwiches, cracked conch and conch fritters in a very Key West setting.
Half Shell Raw Bar $$ • WATERFRONT Casual harborfront stop for oysters, Key West pink shrimp, conch, fresh catch and cold drinks while watching the boats.
Easy rule: Cuban Coffee Queen when you’re in a hurry, Blue Heaven when breakfast is the activity, and Eaton Street or El Siboney when you want a lunch worth remembering.
The weekend vibe

What to Expect

Think relaxed group trip, not field trip.

🌴

Keep It Loose

Join everything, join some things, or disappear for a few hours. Nobody is taking attendance.

🍹

Come Ready to Have Fun

Casual clothes, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and enough stamina for at least one questionable late-night decision.

📱

Watch for Updates

We’ll send final times, reservation details, meeting spots, and live-music updates as the weekend gets closer.

Most Important Rule

This is Shawnee’s 50th birthday in Key West. The objective is simple: spend time together, enjoy the island, and come home with stories that probably get better every time we tell them.
